Going out - at arm's length.
Yeah. I went out with the missionaries again yesterday, only they have replaced my sistahs with American elders. *freezes in terror*
They are Chinese speaking missionaries and they really catch people's attention when they contact people on the street. People stand there and gape at them for a whole 5 minutes thinking "Wow, he speaks Chinese - I mean, he speaks CHINESE?!" (how sad that they have a bigger vocab than I do!) while they get to teach a whole mini first discussion.
Elder Walker went with JQ to teach a group of people, and Elder Snow went with my bud Richard and I. We were supposed to teach a girl who I taught with the sisters, but she wasn't home so we ended up spending 2 hours street contacting.
It was good doing that again. The sisters have been gone for over a month now and I really have missed the work.
After talking to a bunch of uninterested people and an older Chinese man who kept saying, "Religion is like a glass bottle: you can put anything in it" I drove us all back to the place around the corner from their apartment for a late dinner (GOSH it felt good to pay for other people again!) The entire way there, they talked about skiing accidents and ball games.
They are the mainland USA version of what I call "surfer guys": snow boarders. And if I call you a surfer guy I mean a jock - shallow and immature. NOT a compliment.
Fortunately, they are missionaries now so they have something to balance them out.
What a sad replacement for a social life don't you think?
Elder Snow just turned 20. That is BIZZARE! Missionaries have always been older than me. I looked up to them - I wanted to be like them. *sigh* Now I'm older than some of them are - not by much, yet. Just you wait, life goes on. One day I'll be sending my children on missions and will be even more overwhelmed.
Anyway, the elders just bought a whole bunch of DVDs and needed someone to test them out. *grin* Unfortunately they movies testosterone-laden GUYS picked out so I really don't care for most of them although I just watched The Recruit and Bruce Almighty is about to end.
It's really pathetic to watch movies alone though. That's why I'm blogging I guess. To have company.
Free weekends on cellphones start tomorrow and it'll be a weekend for me too - that means double the talk time on my phonecard. It's going to be so hard not to call him.
