The color crisis
Mark's mom, Auntie Ilene, has been in town since Thursday evening. It's been awesome to have met her and even more awesome to see the two of them interract.
Since then, most of my time has been spent with them. On Saturday, we drove to town and went shopping for fabric. Somehow it turned into a game of "find-colors-that-look-good-on-Fei" and I would have cloth of all different colors held up to my face.
"Hmm... that would work"
"I like that purple you're wearing. Purple works - but it has to be dark"
"Uhh. No. Too much yellow. We'll stay away from the yellow."
"Hmmm... try that orange. Not that I'll ever make you wear such a color, but we're headed in the right direction"
"Oh, but never wear black, Fei. It's just a horrible color."
If I thought I was stressing about what I would wear everytime I went out to meet her before, well... I didn't know what the word "stressing" meant then!!!
The fact that some of my most favorite tops are black and yellow really doesn't help. Other than that most of my wardrobe are really bright colors and she really isn't a bright color person. She wears mostly pale colors herself. It suits her personality and age, I guess, being more subdued. Whatever its is, she didn't really pick very many bright colors to compare to my face at the fabric store.
I'm afraid to put on something because she'll think it's a really bad color on me (even though I freaking don't give a crap about it since I only buy clothes I think I look ok in) and what's worse is that she'll probably be all nice about it and tell me it's a really good color (I wore my pink Malay tradional outfit yesterday and she told me it that was a good color on me) even though she might REALLY be thinking "Ugh. How can she wear that?!"
After trying on about all my clothes this morning, I finally decided that I look good in my red top and I'm not going to care if she thinks bright red is an absolutely horrendous color. Besides, they match the earrings Mark made for me.
Thank goodness it's so windy today. I can wear my sweater all day and it doesn't matter what I wear underneath.
Even though I absolutely hate gray and it doesn't look good on me. At all.
