Have You Ever Tried To Stop a Star From Falling?

By Fei for Amy, my shooting star.

Tonight,
one star was different.
Unique.
Special.

Without warning,
she plunges from space.
Falling,
falling.

She leaves a trail of light behind her.
What a sensation it must be.
Falling…

Wait,
don’t go yet!

Falling still…

Blink,
and it’s over.
Too quick,
too swift -
too late.

Fallen.

Could I have caught her,
put her back in the glittered sky?
An empty space lies there instead.
Darkness
in place of her light.
The sky is a lonely place now.

Mommy, where do falling stars go?

While I mourn,
someone else celebrates.
This star carried their wish with her.
But this star was mine.

Why?
Why did she have to go?
Does God mourn when stars fall too?

Maybe she didn’t fall.
Maybe she’s a shooting star instead.

Tonight,
One star chose to be different.
Unique.
Special.

She painted the sky tonight.
and in that brief moment
she was beautiful.

And I only miss her more.
